Danielle won Secretary of the Ronald Reagan Elementary Student Council. She has been talking about running for Secretary since February of last year. She wanted this really bad and she worked hard for it. She thought of some creative things like putting one of her campaign stickers on a baseball cap and wearing it at recess, having mom write "Danielle for Secretary" on a white T-shirt and wearing that to school, and oh, just the whole theme for her campaign. When Nana came to town, Danielle, Nana and Dayna drove up to Newport together and stayed overnight in order to attend a family wedding. On the way up, Danielle got out her notebook and we started brainstorming. Nana, who was totally in her element, told Danielle that she needed a theme, a slogan, and a song. So, Danielle thought of the song, "We will rock you." Well, that did it, and Nana was off. She and Danielle wrote her campaign speech, which Danielle delivered flawlessly. This picture is of her doing that in front of all the 4th and 5th graders. Her slogan was Danielle rocks. And her campaign stickers and badges had rocks on them with "Danielle Rocks" for Secretary. This is a vindication for Nana and Grandpa Carl (Dean's dad). Carl made a bid for student body president of Ogden High School 52 years ago and he lost by 9 votes. Nana was the one who counted the votes and had to deliver the news. Maybe time really does heal all wounds. Her duties as Secretary so far have included leading the student body in the pledge, and today (Oct 20) she hung up all the red ribbons for Red Ribbon Week. We were sad that Bailey and her could not do Student Council together. The Deans gave us the cutest Congratulations poster with a lot of the words spelled out in candy bars. They are a first class family. Danielle is having a great year with Bailey and her teacher Mrs Preston and new friends in her class.
